OSTROGOTHS. Theoderic, 493-526. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.43 g, 6 h), in the name of Anastasius (491-518). Rome, circa 493-518. D N ΛIIΛSTASIVS P Γ AVG Pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Anastasius I facing, his head turned slightly to right, holding spear in his right hand and with a shield, decorated with a horseman spearing a fallen foe, over his left shoulder. Rev. VICTORA AVGGG A / COMOB Victory standing front, head to left, holding long voided cross in her right hand; in field to right, star. MEC 1, 430, 112. MIB 9. Rare. A sharply struck example of splendid style. Minor scrape on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
